CUPOLA SANCTIS
SFÂNTUL DUMITRU
While the Roman Empire was ruled by emperors Maximian and Diocletian, in the city of Thessalonica, the voivode and his wife baptized secretly their son Demetrius according to Christian faith. It was a period of persecution, and the teachings Demetrius had learned were not agreed by Rome’s leaders. After his father’s death, Maximian summoned Demetrius and, impressed by young man’s wisdom, appointed him voivode of Thessalonica. In AD 306, after defeating the Scythes, Maximian made a halt in the city ruled by Demetrius, about whom the emperor has heard he had dedicated his life to God. Demetrius was put into prison, and it was there he met the young Christian Nestor.Maximian’s victories were celebrated with combats in the arena. The giant Vandal Lyaios, emperor’s favourite combatant, used to win in all circumstances. Full of ardour, Nestor asked for Demetrius’ blessing. The disgraced voivode put the sign of Cross on Nestor’s forehead, so that the latter could overcome Lyaios. In our days, Saint Demetrius is also shepherds’ patron – they say he reigns over the herds more than half a year, from the beginning of winter onwards. He is celebrated on the 26th of October.Saint Demetrius is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, which develops bold notes of spices, dried plums, chocolate and accents of berries, spices, vanilla and butter. Dense and velvety, with pleasing and elegant tannins, the wine has a friendly structure but also a depth that dries you to the sensation of spice and wood. Its structure indicates that wine has good potential for evolution and aging.
